Description

The province of Viterbo is located between the southern borders of the Tuscan Maremma and Rome. Flat to the north, the territory becomes more and more hilly up to the Cimini Mountains, to descend towards the Tiber, including the lakes of Bolsena and Vico. The landscape is hilly, dotted with valleys, volcanic lakes, forests, castles, hilltop villages and hot springs. Not yet invaded by mass tourism, the Province of Viterbo still retains the genuine taste of Italy of yesteryear. Geographically it corresponds entirely to Tuscia, the territory in which the Etruscans settled in pre-Roman times. The traces of its centuries-old history can be seen along the ancient Via Francigena and in the various necropolises scattered throughout the territory, immersed in an uncontaminated vegetation. Then, in the Middle Ages, being part of the Papal States, Viterbo and its surroundings were enriched with churches, castles and walls most of which are well preserved and can be visited. Expression of the Renaissance Tuscia are the valuable country villas with their sophisticated parks and gardens.

The park covers about 120 hectares and contains numerous finds including the necropolis and the magnificent objects that are exposed inside the National Archaeological Museum.
