Chieti Italy

The province of Chieti, also called "teatina" by the old name of the city (Teate), limits the northwest with the province of Pescara, and with the province of L'Aquila and the region of Molise to the southeast. To the northeast it borders the Adriatic Sea. In this territory there are predominantly hills and mountains and the landscape is characterized by a series of parallel valleys through which numerous water courses flow. In the northernmost area the landscape is rough and uninhabited, while in the south it is sweeter and full of small villages. The main valleys are: Val Pescara and Val di Sangro. The province also includes a large part of the Majella massif (2,793 m.), The second highest in the Apennines. The most relevant rivers are: Alento, Aterno-Pescara, Aventino, Sangro, Sinello and Trigno. There are many forest areas located in natural reserves created to protect and value the natural heritage of the territory. The southern part of the province is mainly covered with fir trees. On the other hand, near the coast there is a holm oak grove in the Guided Nature Reserve "Lecceta di Torino di Sangro". In the area of the Majella the flora is characterized by a great variety of very interesting plants, such as the Maple of Lobel, the birch, the black pine of Fara di San Martino and the beech. The municipalities with the largest population of the province are Vasto, Lanciano, Francavilla al Mare and Ortona.
